Art & Soul of the Fox Festival comes to downtown Elgin

Downtown Elgin will be the center of activity on Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, Aug. 1, when four events will presented as part of the second annual Art & Soul on the Fox Festival in downtown Elgin.

'Most Adorable Pet' Jackson gets his treat basket, and Antietam Humane Society gets $1,000

One local feline has a little more to purr about this morning. Jackson, a 15-month-old cat and winner of The Record Heralds Most Adorable Pet Contest, received a basket of gifts Wednesday from The Record Herald and other local merchants. The basket contained catnip, treats, toys and gift certificates from the merchants who sponsored the contest advertisement.

Wives of 6 veterans get free pampering at salon

You probably haven't heard of a national "Military Wives" holiday, but Jackie Koma, owner of the Jacklin K. Salon on the city's northwest side, would like to see the country thinking along those lines. The small salon, at 2510 Gross Point Road, treated the spouses of six service veterans to a complimentary spa day July 11 at the salon, 2510 Gross Point Road.
